We view finance and the economy through the eyes of financial analysts and economists; what if we examined them from a biblical perspective?
We rely on financial analysts and economists to gain insight into the economy. We patiently wait for the finance minister to announce the budget each year, which shapes major financial decisions. Alternatively, throughout the year, we make financial plans and decisions according to our budget and determine what is best for us. In a nutshell, we constantly plan the household budget.
Our entire lives are run by a monetary system. Who created this system, and why? Where does the idea of money come from, after all? If it didn't exist, what happened that led to its creation? Are we supposed to live our lives as slaves of this system, which, behind the scenes, controls us from birth until death?
Words like 'inflation' or 'recession' scare us. We feel uncomfortable because these words are often associated with bad news, which typically involves increases in the price of goods, higher rent or mortgage interest, job losses, and other adverse consequences.
Most people, including me, do not understand how the structured monetary system works. If we did, we would use money wisely instead of letting it control our lives.
Those who control the monetary system don't bother about money. They are knowledgeable, yet they hide the truth from us. Likewise, the rich who can afford to live lavishly do not worry about money, but those who lack financial literacy and have to count every penny and think twice before spending their hard-earned money suffer and live with worry and anxiety year in and year out.
We’ve placed our trust in experts to educate us about finance and economics. Yet, their insights often fail to reach the people who need them most. Instead of clarity, their language sometimes adds to our confusion. What if, instead of relying solely on modern economic theory, we paused to view the monetary system through a biblical lens? What does God say about money, wealth, and the systems that shape our lives?
As it is written:
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...” — Hosea 4:6
“...you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
