Let me share with you the story of how I became passionate about discovering the entity we call the monetary system and what I've come to understand about money.
I grew up in a born-again Christian family. My mother was a hardcore believer in God. She was passionate about the Bible, an animal lover, and had a deep interest in politics, which, aside from the Bible, was a topic of much debate at home between her and my brother. Following in her footsteps, I developed a deep love for animals. However, I did not understand the Bible or politics at the time.
As I grew up, I found myself grappling with numerous unanswered questions, much like everyone else. However, one question stood out among the rest—the enigma of the monetary system. This curiosity seemed to have a life of its own. Was it sparked by the political debates between my mother and brother, or did it arise independently? I couldn't say for sure.
My early years were marked by watching money change hands on the bus, in grocery stores, at local shops, and even when I lodged and withdrew cash at banks. These everyday transactions sparked many questions in my young mind, particularly about the nature and role of money.
The concept of money, its flow from one hand to another, lacks more profound significance beyond its role in trade. It was a puzzle we were all part of, a game where survival was impossible without those small, colourful pieces of paper with numbers and symbols. As a young mind, I found the concept eluding my grasp. Little did I know then that the monetary system was the very backbone of human existence, and understanding it was key to financial literacy.
What if money were no longer necessary for obtaining basic needs or paying for services? What if goods and services could be exchanged directly? This was the intriguing concept of the barter system. My young mind was filled with questions about how money worked, but I struggled to find someone who could teach me. Was I too young to understand such a complex concept?
The bank was the most intriguing. During my teenage years, I often found myself asking puzzling questions. Who owns the bank? Why does the bank take people's money? It looks authoritative to me. It has stood the test of time, older than my existence. Do I even have the right to question it? It owes me no explanation. So I thought. However, I could not stop myself from thinking about it.
I went to my mother, the one who was passionate about politics and anything else associated with it, and asked, "Mother, who owns the bank?" She said, "Many people are involved; they are called shareholders."
If I had tried harder to understand, I would have gone crazy instead of writing this blog. Or, maybe I was crazy after all. When children and teenagers were playing, talking about their favourite movie stars, planning parties with friends, thinking about birthday cakes and Christmas gifts, or else being anxious about exams and good grades, I focused on understanding the monetary system and its function. Little did I know I would have to wait years for the much sought-after answer.
A Short-lived Experience That Had a Tremendous Impact On Me And Led to My Understanding of Money
Understanding money and how it works was difficult. I finally quit trying to understand it. A few years later, my attention was drawn to another intriguing subject: The Book of Revelation. I fell in love with it when I turned fifteen. Although I could not understand the Bible, its most controversial pages got my undivided attention for twenty-five years.
Little did I know that the Book of Revelation, with its intricate descriptions of bizarre imagery, would open a wide window into the realms of politics and finance. Fast-forward to December 2008. I had a sudden awakening on the train back home from work. It happened unexpectedly, catching me off guard.
For about one minute or two, I could not feel my body. It was as if I had distanced myself from it and stood mid-air. This short-lived, strange, yet unforgettable and wonderful experience was like a moment of pure clarity and understanding. It changed my entire perspective of the world for the better.
I was suddenly revived and became aware of Christ, the Saviour, and His mission on earth. Slowly, I started to connect the dots about the world and its flawed system of government. The Holy Spirit took me by the hand and walked me through the Garden of Eden before the fall. It makes sense. We learn the end of a story by understanding its beginning.
The answers I had been searching for since childhood would be revealed to me over the weeks, months, and years to come, through that continuous process of personal revival. I learned that secret organisations were behind the scenes—a shadow government behind the visible government.
My knowledge of Revelation was broad and scattered. The Great Recession happened in the same year (2008), and a few years later, the question of money and the monetary system came back on the table. The impact of the recession was quite significant. I almost lost my job, my hours were reduced by more than fifty per cent, and I struggled financially. I was late on my rent and bills, but thank God I had a comprehensive landlord at the time. He was patient and gave me time to repay my accumulated unpaid rent over a few months. It took me a while before I was offered another opportunity. I slowly recovered and caught up on my debts.
Instead of worrying, the recession sparked a burning desire and a strong determination in me to research money. I embarked on a long and challenging journey, including sleepless nights, to understand the root of the monetary system itself. I read books, articles, magazines, and online resources, mainly YouTube videos, and engaged in deep discussions with experts in the field.
I prayed and sought God's help. The Holy Spirit gave me insight as I worked things out in my mind. He led me to Genesis 1 and 2, revealing the state of the world before the fall. There, in the Garden of Eden, I paused and learned.
What Did I discover in Genesis 1 and 2?
I understood that God had never established a monetary system in the Garden of Eden; it was a man-made system, never meant to exist. Since men fell in the Garden of Eden and were banished from the creator's presence, they were left to fend for themselves. In the process, they devised an idea to suit their needs and gave birth to a monetary system that has replaced God in our hearts. It is a system that runs people's lives throughout the world.
We own nothing on the planet. Even though we work, get involved in businesses, acquire material possessions, and become incredibly wealthy, God still owns "the earth and the fullness thereof and they that dwell in it." Psalm 24:1. We ultimately leave everything behind when we die.
It is best to listen to Job 21:1 when he says, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return..."
The late Dr Myles Munroe, former leader of the Bahamas Faith, once mentioned something in one of his sermons. [Paraphrasing] "God never gave the ownership of the earth to man, only the stewardship." Psalm 24:1 confirms his statement.
It is a vital piece of information we lost after the fall. We behave as the permanent owners of the lands and material possessions we acquire. We have an insatiable appetite for more. Stealing or quarrelling over a piece of land among nations, for instance, using deceit to acquire material possessions and money, is a consequence of the fall and a waste of time.
The scale came off my eyes, layer by layer, over several years. It was a long and arduous process, a fierce mental battle, before I could accept the information that the monetary system is man-made and that money itself does not exist. Money is only an idea.
But once the information sank in, I was liberated from the burden of money and its associated anxiety and worries. It was a profound relief, a weight lifted from my shoulders, and I hope it can do the same for you.
It is essential to understand that when the Holy Spirit leads us to true knowledge, it is simple, accurate, of superior quality, and extremely powerful in destroying strongholds and in healing the wounds and damage caused by a lack thereof. Knowledge is power, and it can empower you to take control of your financial life.
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..." Hosea 4:6, but "...you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free." John 8:32
Today, I have a completely different perspective on money than before. Although I have much to discover, I have enough knowledge of its concept, how it works, and how to use it wisely. And you, too, can gain this understanding.
I created this blog to share the many things I discovered about money. I hope that by the time you've read the entire blog, the burden of money and its worries and anxiety will also be lifted from your shoulders.
I pray that the Holy Spirit gives you insight as you read the blog posts.
God bless you.
